Adam Versus Kris: The Final Two Compete

Well, here it is ladies and gentlemen, the final two. It might not be the final two the producers wanted, but it’s a final two that I rather enjoy. With only one million votes having seperated the two contestants last week, this could be a much closer finale than anyone ever anticipated. So, sit back and prepare to keep up as we all watch Adam Lambert compete against Kris Allen for the title of American Idol.

Ryan calls it the accoustic rocker versus the glam rocker. We had a video of Kris and Adam throughout the year so far. Kind of cool. I just spotted Carly Smithson in the audience. Lots of celebs today and tomorrow for sure. Three songs today: a favorite song from the year, a song picked by producer Simon Fuller and the winner’s song which was co-written by judge Kara DioGuardi.

Adam is up first. A vid package reveals that he’s always been noisy. He’s reprising “Mad World” from year you were born week. He’s coming down the stairs with smoke all around. I can barely see him. But Brad comments that at least he’s got the coat from Immortal’s R Us this time (Highlander joke). A close up of his face and I think he put the mascara on a little thick. Just as good as the first time around. Randy gives him an A plus. Kara says he rocked it again. Paula is very proud of him. There are all the other idols in the audience. Simon thinks it was a bit over theatrical this time around.

Kris reveals he didn’t like singing in front of his family, so they paid him quarters to sing. He picks “Ain’t No Sunshine” from Top Downloads week. This time he’s at the full piano instead of the keyboard. I think this is better than the first time around. Randy calls it one of his best perfomances ever. Kara agrees says he makes it feel like he’s singing it to the audience. Paula rambles on about “Allenizing” songs. Simon says he wasn’t sure that America made the right choice in voting Kris here but that he takes it all back after that performance. And he calls the first round for Kris.

Adam is singing “A Change is Gonna Come” as picked by Fuller. Am I right in thinking that Syesha sang that last year during top three week? He’s wearing a grey suit with a turquoise tie and looking good. The singing is pretty good too. And there is the trademark Lambert scream. Randy calls it unbleievable. Kara says it may have been his best performance and interpretation this season. Paula says its the best she’s ever heard him sing. She says he’s going to be iconic. Simon says he’s 100 percent back in the game.

Kris is singing “What’s Going On” as picked by Fuller. On the acoustic guitar, making it an intimate performance with a few other  band members. Dear God I love him. No wonder he flew under the radar. He always comes up with a cool arrangement and sings it well. I love it. I’ll be downloading it for sure. Randy calls it a real duel. It calls the performance light for the big stage. Kara rambles on about social conciousness. Paula says he tore that song up and made Marvin Gaye proud. Kris calls it three friends in their bedroom strumming along. He calls it too laid back. Simon says round two goes to Adam.

Now the winner’s song. Well so far there aren’t any magic rainbows, so that’s an improvement. It’s obviously supposed to be uplifting and all that good stuff, but I could care less cause no matter who wins we’ll be hearing this over and over for the rest of the summer. The crowd is chanting his name. Randy says it just all right for him. Kara is moved and proud. Paula is in awe. Simon says he’s one of the best and most original contestants.

Kris is up now. The song is called “No Boundaries”. I think he might have just missed some words. That;s not good for Kris. I think it’s a little obvious that it might have been written more for a voice like Adam’s but Kris is doing admirably. I kind of wish they’d just do away with the damn “song” and let the contestants sing a different third song. Randy calls him an amazing competion and says the song fits him better than Adam. Kara wants him not be judged on this song, but on his overall performance. Paula calls it one of the most compelling fianles and that he deserved to be up there in this final. Simon says his highlight was his first song, but likes seeing him on the big stage and that he thouroughly deserves to be up there.

So who gets it? Who will you be voting for? Tune in tomorrow for all the coverage of the results show. After a recap of the songs we get a live performance of “Home Sweet Home” by Carrie Underwood.

They were both on CNN the other day. Hopefully they can be equally successful in their recording ventures, as they both are very talented.
