The Advertising Economy

In today’s tough economy you might not think of all the sectors that are affected by business trends, advertising is almost certainly not a sector most people every think about as being a thriving organ of the economic body. They are, however, as vital to the success of business and the way you live your life as any other sector of the economy.  While Mad Men isn’t anywhere close to being what things are like in the business today, they have gotten a lot more people thinking about the world of advertising.

Think for a moment where your life would be without it.  While some of you, especially the some of the people from Blog Catalog (who will remain nameless) rail on me for putting up ads, but life is better because of advertising.  While there is no doubt the world can be hurt by advertising, such as those campaigns to promote smoking, the industrialized world exists because of successful advertising.  Without the promotion of every product in the market place most of them would simply disappear.

Where would you be if there weren’t twelve kinds of name brand raisin bran flakes and six local chain stores to sell them.  Where would you be if you didn’t know Hyundais were chaper than Fords?  Where would you be if you didn;t know when the news was going to be on TV?  While these campaigns are designed to influence you, ask yourself where would you be if no one told you there was a choice, an alternative, or when you could be informed?
