Birth Year Idols

Tonight on American Idol the contestants sing songs from their birth year.  Oh how will they screw up tonight with poor song choices.  Let the disaster begin.

Danny Gotke (Danny Gokey) thinks he can sing.  From 1980 he pulls Mickey Gilly’s version of Stand By My.  This isn’t a bad song choice, but since it was done last year there are comparisons to be made which is usually a bad thing.  This isn’t the song I would have picked for him.  He didn’t have the moment he could have had by picking something like The Rose.  Randy thinks he had some talent.  Kara wasn’t happy with the arrangement.  Paula thinks he sat the bar high, but I think she is comparing it to the hurdling ability of a smurf.  Simon Cowell says overall great.

Kris Allen had a dream, he wanted to be a taxi driver.  With All She Wants To Do Is Dance, I think some one should call in Don Henley to beat him.  This is the first really big mistake he has made in several weeks.  I am seeing a well deserved bottom three.  With so many songs in 1985 why did he have to screw with this.  Kara didn’t loved it.  Paula thinks he made it his own.  Indulgent, boring, and forgetable (I bet you can guess who said that).  Randy Jackson agrees with Simon.

Lil Rounds is a 1984 girl and she picked the exact song i thought she should.  With What’s Love Got to Do With it, she has picked her first smart song choice since auditions.  I am digging this, and not just because I picked the song.  Paula Abdul is a fucking idiot.  Simon thinks it was a ghastly performance.  Randy is nodding and is wrong too.  Kara Diogaurdi slams her too.  These judges are clueless about what she could have picked this year.  This year was one of the hardest to pick from.  There were only four 1984 she was allowed to do, because they couldn’t be screwed up.  This wasn’t as good as it could have been, but this was one of the better possibilities.    The other three songs she was allowed were Here Comes The Rain Again, I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues, and what she should have sang, Sade’s Smooth Operator.

Anoop Desai should sing Word Up, I’m Your Man, Rumors, Missionary Man, Love Walks in, or The Futures So Bright I Got To Wear Shades.  With Cindi Lauper’s True Colors he screwed up from the moment he opened his mouth.  This was second rate karaoke.  Randy Jackson said it was hot.  Kara thinks he controlled the song.  Paula says it was flawless, which means she can’t hear especially when it comes to phrasing.  Simon thinks he was much better than last week.

Scott and Alison are after the break.

WTF  is up with Scot MacIntyre.  This sucks ass.  The judges are probably going to get all mushy about it so I am going to go get something to eat.  This was horrible and thankfully the judges are agreeing with that.

Allison Iraheta who is Katy’s birthday buddy.  Yet another risky song choice.  I agree with Slezak that she should have done Red Hot Chili Pepper’s Under the  Bridge.  This is pretty good, but there were better choices.  I would have picked Walking on Broken Glass or Mysterious Ways for her.  if not those I would have suggested November Rain or Right Now.  Paula loved it.  Simon Cowell thinks she needs to be more likable to be a pop song idol.  Randy says is another Kelly Clarkson.  “Cool Beans,” out of Simon.  Kara says let’s go make a record.

Matt Girard again picks a very risky song after having Stevie Wonder on last week.  It isn’t horrid, but the comparison is being made in my mind.  Paula gives him her Oh face.

Adam Lambert gives a soft performance.  He could have picked a much better song.  He is playing it safe by going back to the soft pop star image, rather than the hard core image that is really him.  Simon gives him an Oh face.
