Citizens Speak Up, Be Heard
Thomasville, Georgia citizens are doing something more citizens around the country need to be doing, speaking up. Not speaking up to their friends and family or running their mouths on Facebook. Citizens with complaints need to take their voice to the public. They need to make their voices heard where it matters. if you don’t like the way the school board is doing things show up at their meeting. If you don’t like the way the city council handles things, show up and speak your mind. I praise the citizens of Thomas County for speaking up and demanding action.
Citizens’ views still important
Citizens disillusioned with government should take notice of what happened at Thursday’s Thomas County Commission budget session. After some prodding, the commission delivered what most of their constituents wanted — more cuts.
It is unlikely more than $900,000 would have been sliced from the $20-plus million budget if so many taxpayers hadn’t voiced their demands so vehemently. They are to be commended for getting involved in the process, and the commission deserves accolades for positively responding to them.
That is the way government is supposed to work.
My hat is off to those who seek change and know how to make it happen.
