Consequences Be Damned
Wake up America! I am not telling you this because it is early on a Sunday morning and god wants you at his church service. God be damned and damned be those who only vote the religion card too. It is time that you started voting with your brain instead of your but this and your but that.

The lesson for Americans suffused with anxiety and dread over the crackup of the financial markets is that the way you vote matters, that there are real-world consequences when you go into a voting booth and cast that ballot. For the nitwits who vote for the man or woman they’d most like to have over for dinner, or hang out at a barbecue with, I suggest you take a look at how well your 401(k) is doing, or how easy it will be to meet the mortgage this month, or whether the college fund you’ve been trying to build for your kids is as robust as you’d like it to be.
Despite the republicans calls to vote against elitists the republican leadership is among the most elitist group the world has ever known. Granted they are just the rich old white boy club that is so out of touch with reality they even buy their own line of fashionable bullshit, but hey that still doesn’t mean they aren’t elitists. These people don’t want you to think, because they honestly don’t believe you are capable of making the kind of choices that would support their good old boy network. They tell you don’t vote for those intellectual elites because they are thinkers.
Frankly it is about time we started putting people who think about things in charge rather than people who just pander and play on the heartstrings of those who aren’t as intellectual. I don’t want just smart people in charge, there are plenty of smart republicans, I want thinkers in charge. i want the kind of people who think about the consequences of their actions, and not just the immediate consequences but the ones months, years, elections, and generations down the road.
If you doubt the soundness of voting for thinkers, look where voting for an emotional weeny like George W Bush got you. You have our flashy war with Iraq spending millions of dollars an hour. The less glamorous war in Afghanistan, the garden state of terrorists and extremism, is underfunded, understaffed, and ignored as much as possible. It is time we put someone in charge who will think about the consequences of choosing glamor over substance.
