New Sci-Fi Novel Series

October 10, 2007

Well folks I am at it again and have a new novel series in the works and I need help. Here is the synopsis of the story. In the Summer of 2009 gateways to other worlds start appearing on earth, I haven’t quite come up with the mechanism of why yet, but that is not too important. one fine day ten years later all the gates cease to be. The story I want to follow is what happens to fifteen thousand school kids between the sixth grade and seniors in high school and roughly one thousand earth bound adults and another five hundred or so humans who have migrated to this world over the past ten years who get stranded.

Here are some particular details of the setting

  1. The gate was privately owned and the world has some development done for large scale resettling, but very little immigration has been done.
  2. The planet has 3 moons and orbits a binary star system and has a standard gravity of 1.3G.
  3. One rotation of the planet is 96 earth hours and the planets year is 604 earth days.
  4. A day on the planet is broken into 3 periods of daylight and 3 of darkness and there are 15 seasonal changes in the temperate zones of the planet which twice as big as earth.
  5. No contact can be made with earth after the gate closes, the new world is on the other side of the milky way
  6. Native flora and fauna are mostly edible and flora and fauna from earth have been brought over and is flourishing in varying degree.
  7. Food and water are plentiful, but housing in the immediate area are not as this was only an over night trip for local school kids to watch a major eclipse. All these kids have with them is what they would have brought with them and the items long term residents, researchers, and immigrants would have on hand.

The storyline is progressing well with the science and major events but I am stuck and need help on what issues the school kids are going to be dealing with being cut off from everything they knew. I have been out of high school long enough I have forgotten what it was like. If anyone has ideas please post them below or email. Thanks. Brad
