It should come as no surprise to anyone that telemarketers rarely listen or care what you have to say. Neither telling them to take your name off of their lists individually nor placing your name of the do not call list does a lot of good for some of them, and neither does appealing to their sense of logic. You can however fight back. If you think letting caller ID and voicemail take care of this situation is the answer, you might want to reconsider that every time a company violates the do not call laws there is $500 in it for you. In these hard economic times this might well become a source of income for some of you.

Here is what you need to do.

Place yourself on the federal do not call list.

When a telemarketer calls make sure you get the company name, callers name, ask for the company name and address and to be placed on the company’s do no not call list and for a written copy of the company’s do not call policy.

If the person making the call won’t give you that information ask to speak to a supervisor. By law there must be one on duty. If you can’t talk to a supervisor then they have wracked up violation one. if they don’t provide or don’t have a written copy of a do not call policy it is a second violation. It is a third violation if they do not maintain a do not cal list. There is your first potential $1500.

Wait for them to call again. The second call will get you no where if you go to court, because they will claim it was inadvertent. The judge will likely let them get away with saying, “Oops, Our Bad!”

Wait for them to call a third time. After the third time they can’t claim it was inadvertent and you have them by the balls.

After the third time you can successfully file and win a small claims case against the company. You will need either a handmade list of every time they called and every person you talked to or if your phone company provides a list of incoming calls you can simply use that.

Will you make five hundred bucks for every violation, probably not unless there are a lot of calls or the company fails to show up at court. There are a lot of companies who won’t show up so you may well be awarded the full amount without much work. Will you win enough to make going through the hassle worth it, most likely and then some. Do remember two, things most states have limits on how much small claims cases can be worth and that it is up to you to collect the money often enough. Will it be worth it if the lawn care, window replacement, and roofing company refuse to pay me? Of course it will, I’m an evil SOB who will set the judgment to most aggressive and most obnoxious debt collector I can find.

When the book Problems of Post-War Capitalism in the United States is talking about how important marketing is in American capitalism, I will agree with the fact that advertising is extremely important in stimulating the economy. I will also agree that because of the money we spend on advertising and products, it somewhat has an effect on the job market, but at one point in the book they said that more products will keep bringing more jobs. I think that as with most things this happens to a certain point, but maybe our society has reached this point. Advertising for a product will create the urge for people to buy that product, but at what expense?

Customers will stop buying one thing to buy the new thing and although the new product is getting more customers, the older product is losing customers. In this case, the job market does not change. As one company needs more employees, the other will need less. There is more or less something for everything in the world currently so once you introduce something new to the market it is just going to take away customers from another group.

For some reason reading this book made me think about my 6-week stay in Ghana. As I read here how fragile Capitalism seems to be and how our market, buying habits, and job market affect our economy so much, I realized that much of this was not present in Ghana. I am not saying that their society is any better place than us, but the stress dealing with certain issues does not exist there. In capitalism I feel like people all want to succeed. Prestige is worked toward and wealth is always an issue. In Ghana, fame, wealth, and power have a less important role in people’s lives and therefore the general public is a lot less stressed on a day-to-day basis.

From this book I learned that capitalism might not be the way to go. This is somewhat contradicting because most Americans have been brought up learning that capitalism is the only option and it’s the right way. Reading about capitalisms dependency on advertising and buying products is disconcerting because if that market ever died or was altered, capitalism would fail. I am also very interested in going green and the constant buying of new products seems wasteful to me. If products were made to last a long time and not break/become obsolete, then people would be able to save money and be less wasteful. Unfortunately, after reading this book, I see now that if this were the case, capitalism would greatly suffer. I believe in the future we will have to find an alternative to capitalism.

Singapore’s history is one of riches and romance spice trading and piracy, colonialism and growth. In the 7th century, she was the Temasek, the trading center of Sumatra’s ancient Srivijaya empire.

In 1963, Singapore was part of a political and economic alliance formed between the Federation of Malaya, Sarawak and North Borneo which is now Sabah under the nation of Malaysia. This alliance, proposed by the Malayan Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman, was called Malaysia, and proved to be short-lived.

In 1965, Singapore separated from the Malaysian Federation to become an independent republic. Over 45 years, Singapore has relentlessly pursued the goal of becoming Asia’s Pre-eminent center for tourism, trade and finance, by developing education and technical training programs, investment strategies, aviation and environmental policies.

Now the small island republic of only 633 square kilometers, boasts the world’s busiest port and an airport served by over 70 of the world’s major airlines, serving more than 21 million airline passengers year. This diamond-shaped island is only 224 square miles with the population of 6 million.

As a major tourist destination, Singapore welcomes an average of 12,000 visitors each day.

Singapore has a highly developed market-based economy that depends heavily on exports and refining imported goods, especially in manufacturing, electronics, petroleum refining, mechanical engineering and biomedical science sectors which could in the website in Wikipedia.

This nation is a good example of model urban planning and a former colony of Great Britain, it is a tiny city state. It is a member of Association of Southeast Asian Nation or known as ASEAN. Singapore is a major international hub in whole Asia, it is positioned on many sea and air trade routes.

Slum areas were eliminated and the urban planners have been knowledgeable about the planning experiences in other parts of the world especially in Western Cities.

It is hoped that major cities in the Philippines such as Manila, Cebu, and Davao can learn a lesson from Singapore.

This abstract deals with the economic status that results to economic development in Israel. Here they will discover the system between the kibbutz and moshav. To those who are interested reading the Bible, this is their chance to know what is the economic history of Israel and how they develop their own nation. This article is a heavy article for the readers and viewers and it needs analysis for Economics students. This is also good for the book writers who like to write about the Great Nation Israel. Continue reading →

Israel’s economy has grown rapidly at an average rate of about ten percent annually, in spite of poor natural resources.

The modern economic growth of Israel is not a mirage in the desert. It is real and it is a product of great determination and untold sacrifices of its people in building their own nation.

This nation is now a modern, democratic, and industrial state. It is basically an urban society. This means that the phenomenal economic success of Israel has been achieved despite thousands of years of persecutions and invasions by the Assyrians, Babylonians, Romans, and Germans.

In manufacturing sector, The Tel-Aviv-Yafo area is Israel’s major manufacturing center. It has over half of Israel’s factories. They had to import large amounts of equipment and raw materials. As a result, the nations imports greatly exceed exports in value. Income from various sources makes up the difference. These source include grants and loans from other countries, and income from tourists. They have also chemicals, clothing and textiles, finished diamonds, machinery, metals, processed foods, transportation equipment, wood products.

In agricultural sector, Israeli farmers produce about three-fourths of their country’s food. Exported foods cover the cost of importing the rest. The chief farm products include oranges and other citrus fruits, and eggs, milk, and poultry. Other important products are cotton, livestock, sugar beets, vegetables, and wheat.

The Israelites traveled in the desert for 40 years. Moses became the Prince of Egypt although he discovered that he was an Israelite.

At present, the Promise Land or Land of Israel is a great nation. God has indeed fulfilled his promise to Abraham, and later on to the children of Israel. The enemies of the Land of Israel have destroyed many time its people and achievements.

I myself as the author of this article before it will be my book later on.

Unemployment rate hits 4-year high as job losses continue – Aug. 1, 2008

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) — Employers cut jobs in July for the seventh straight month, while the unemployment rate hit a four-year high, according to a government report released Friday.

This is not surprising at all. Locally I have seen way too many retail and fast food businesses going under. Part of this has been do to the rapid expansion in these areas and keeping them understaffed while overworking the few employees they maintain. Lack of insight into the human behavior, poor management and the general economic down turn has truly hampered many of these businesses. I expect the trend will continue.

The best example of how dense some of these companies are can be seen in my small 40k person town. Currently in a three mile radius There is a K-mart, Super Wal-mart, Target, and a Super Miejers. None of the stores show any outward signs of doing well, and I have inside information that both the superstores are losing money hand over fist. Despite those issues Target is planning a new superstore of their own right between the other two despite having just done a multi-million dollar remodel. If trends continue, the currently understaffed Target will add fifty percent more floor space yet not increase their staff. Any lay person can see this won’t work, but somewhere in the minds of mid level executives they obviously are too afraid of losing marketshares to understand you can’t build up when your base is a fragile house of cards.

If that wasn’t enough of an example of over reaching another local area will be getting three new McDonalds in a five mile radius. Inside that radius they already have two stand alone stores, and two more inside of Wal-Marts. Why might they think they need the extra stores? The reason is obvious to them, blot out your competetion. These new stores are all going in next to existing or new fast food restaurants. Maintaining market shares at the expense of profits and employee retention is short sighted and likely to result in the further economic of already depressed areas.

The one thing no one wants to talk about during these hard financial times is crime. Crime is something the middle class usually attribute to those poor welfare scum too lazy to work for a living. Guess what, many of these new welfare scum, used to be the middle class, and guess what being poor has driven them to lives of crime. Fraud was never unknown amongst the middle class a little judicious fudging of numbers has been a time honored tradition that the upper middle class have always partaken in when it came to paying taxes. That was still a crime, but according to them it wasn’t anything like bank robbery. Of course now the upper middle class have decided they weren’t beyond robbing banks either.

Crime up as economy declines Area police report increase in thefts as times get bad

WATERBURY — Michael Seifert, a New Milford resident, was collapsing under financial strain in 2007. His credit cards were maxed out, bill collectors were closing in and his children’s private school tuition was due. His debt had reached an overwhelming $145,000.
Authorities say Seifert would go on a serial bank robbery spree after he became cash-strapped, knocking over 13 banks in two states. Due to a weak economy, more people might be considering the path that police say Seifert chose to solve his problems.
Area police say they have seen an increase in petty crimes and burglaries recently. Car break-ins, shoplifting and drivers taking off without paying at the gas pump are on the rise, authorities say, and more of those crimes could be coming.

If this could happen to an ordinary guy probably from an ordinary family in a small Connecticut town, could it happen in your community? What is the breaking point for your average everyday ordinary parent? Could the financial stress get so much you would rob a bank? Could it get so much that you kill your kids and yourself? You might say it could never happen to you, but I would almost bet Michael Seifert said that about himself too at some point in time.

The time to buy a house if you are lucky enough to have available credit may be right now. I keep cringing when I see how steeply home prices are falling and even more so when I see foreclosures going for a pittance of their current value, much less what they will in a few years. If you have the means I would suggest you start looking at current mortgage rates and your local listings. Do you want to know how low some of these properties are going for? Let me give you a few examples I have seen recently. I looked at renting a house fourteen months ago and said forget it, because as nice as it was it was priced to cover their ballooning mortgage. They wanted $1100.00 a month and that got me a pool and hot tub which I had to cover an additional $100 monthly maintenance fee on. That wasn’t a huge deal, but the houses on either side which were just as big were renting for $800 and $900 a month. The house I would say valued at nearly $175k when I looked at it. It sold two weeks ago for $90k. I could have made the payment on a $90k home over thirty years even with a steep fixed interest rate. Another home I looked at buying nearly five years had five bedrooms, pool, hot tub, and two outbuildings with utilities sat on two acres in town and had a price tag of $300k. It was foreclosed on and sold at a sheriffs sale a month ago for just over $60k. The deals are out there and I wish I was in a better position, because even with higher interest rates the current homes on the market are way under valued. Be it for yourself or as an investment, now looks like a good time to buy if you can.
