Lenders and investment analysts who screwed the system are being brought to task for it. The greedy cheats are being called on to answer. There are hundred of multi-year investigations that are now coming to fruition with criminal charges being brought. There are also many states who are finally bringing criminal charges against people who lied on mortgage applications, borrowers, lenders, and most importantly middlemen who did most of the lying. Of course this only coming now since many investigations were being blocked by the US justice department so say many of the investigators. For the record it was the republican party who actually encouraged lenders and investors to buy into this market starting when they they controlled both houses of congress. You can trace the beginning of the sub-prime crisis all the way back to 1996.

It also isn't up to these other countries to provide us with a quick oil fix. Perhaps if conservative law makers hadn't been blocking every effort to raise cafe standards and trying to keep us away from using alternative energy sources since the early eighties we wouldn't be in this mess.

We have known for 115 years diesel engines run on vegetable oil. Not to mention had working proof that cellulose based ethanol was far superior to corn since Brazil started using it in the 1970's. Instead of bitching about other countries not proving us fuel junkies with a quick fix, ask yourself why no one wanted to solve our addiction problems before now?

Sometimes I think that it's just too easy to be critical of the administration and not of those who are doing those things that are bringing down our country. How about the lenders who brought on the housing market crisis through their greed? How about the oil companies and the middle east jerks who are so greedy that they cannot allow us to have more oil then a pittance?

I thought that this was strange as well. While I don't agree with Kucinich trying to impeach people, I did watch it on C-SPAN because it isn't exactly a common thing.

I'd say that he made a fairly interesting argument, he just doesn't have any of the facts necessary to back it up. And the fact that he doesn't have a whole lot of credibility, even within his own party, also didn't help him at all.

Charless last blog post..<a href="http://www.various-thoughts.com/2008/06/11/leni-riefenstahl-a-great-artis.php" rel="nofollow">Leni Riefenstahl - A Great Artist - Part 2</a>

I don't doubt it will be a very long time before we allow someone to change their sex on their birth certificate, but I am also not sure that is a good thing either from a point of statistical data. Of course I never thought we would be moving as far or fast as we are towards gay marriage either. That battle is far from over for sure and will ultimately wind up in the supreme court, no matter what states have decided for themselves.

Politics aside for a moment, more and more scientific evidence, both genetic and psychological, is emerging that gender disfunction is something that affects enough people whose lives are miserable, that I do think we should be catering to their needs on this level. Funnily enough, other less enlightened places such as Iran also provide operations at the government's expense, and they go one step further too. They also allow the person to have their gender changed on their birth certificate. Sadly I can't imagine that happening in the US for a while.

the problem is you are looking at this from the point of view of an American Libertarian. The Chinese people could have that type of government if they wanted it, the problem is they are not willing to lay down their life to get it. It isn't that important too them. Sixty years ago they had their revolution and chose the people to make their policy and willingly gave huge powers to the central government.

The other problem with your analysis that governments need a small role in people life is wrong. They need to take the smallest possible role which often times is a very large role, if the government is to be responsible. A person will often do the hard difficult task of being responsible. Get a group of people together and all it takes is one selfish loudmouth to convince everyone that they shouldn't. Policies like the one birth policy have to be put into place by a strong central authority. No matter what the individual person may be able to rationalize and know is the right answer you will always have people be it from within or without telling them that it is better to have all the kids the you can, because it is tradition.

The world as a whole would be far better off if this policy or even a two kids policy were put into effect. If is good for fiscal conservatism It is good for the environment. In the US you wouldn't even have to take drastic measures to get it done, just offer the right financial incentives to do and public attitude would quickly change. Offer a tax credit for one or two kids, and a penalty for more than that and there would quickly be a move to have fewer kids.
