Idol Gets Down and Dirty

Getting down and dirty with the format this season they will pull the top man, top woman, and the next highest vote getter. They are stacking the deck and screwing around with many people’s chances of moving on. The close up of Paula Abdul shows her age. Simon admits the decks are stacked against the contestants.
I dislike this makeup since I feel Stephen Fowler is the lone black guy and will get a percentage of voters voting for him so the black guy isn’t cut. It doesn’t matter how good he is, being the lone black guy will skew the results. I wish him well, but without hearing him they are putting up against two of my other favorite guys, Danny Gokey and Anoop Desai.
Jackie Tohn is our first contestant tonight she is singing Elvis. Her raspy bluesy voice that reminds me a lot of last years top twelve finalist Amanda Overmeyer. Hopefully she will do better this than Amanda. Randy wasn’t blown away vocally, but thought she had energy. Kara said she could work a stage. Paula says she was up dancing. Simon doesn’t think she did herself any favors and I agree.
Ricky Braddy is the next singer. Leon Russel was a good vocal choices, but singing a song no one recognizes may hurt him. Randy thought this was the true start of Season eight. Kara thought he killed it. Paula thinks he deserves to go very far. Simon wasn’t jumping out of his chair. He says he has a great voice, but doesn’t have that star quality.
Alexis Grace still has her pink streaked hair, but she is looking rather hot in her dress. She is going to sing Never Loved a man by Aretha Franklin. Her vocal performance is only so so for me, but when she is pulled in for a facial closeup there is a good chance they are choosing to portray a different aspect of her. The more I listen to the song, the more I like her. Her final verse has done it for me. Randy thinks she worked it. (MILF) Kara says the Jeanie is out of the bottle. Paula is surprised how much ability she has for her youth. Simon says she is the best so far tonight. He thinks she is possibly the dark horse.
Brent Keith is going to go country. After the first twenty seconds I am guessing Simon is going to hate him. I am not impressed. Randy likes his return to country roots. Kara thinks he played it safe, with his song choice. Paula wants America to remember his audition. Simon thinks he is forgettable. Brent doesn’t think country fans will forget it, he might be right.
Stevie Wright plans to showcase herself as a bubbly seventeen year old girl which might get a few college guys excited, but I am not impressed. I like her and think she has potential, but she is nothing but a wanna be Hannah Montana right now. The judges are preparing to hate this. Randy didn’t feel it. Kara says she has an identity crisis as an artist. Paula agrees with them and thinks it was a bad song choice. Simon is honest and says it was terrible. She has some experience and hopes she learns from it and so do I.
