Newsweek Under Fire For Not Touching Up Palin Cover Photo. I am more than a little mystified how this big news story has made its way onto Google Trends when there are only three other blogs reporting on it and two of the are splogs. Never the less I am here to truly report on Newsweek Under Fire For Not Touching Up Palin Cover Photo and other Palin moments of the day.

Usually it is a magazine getting in trouble for airbrushing a persons photo, but this time it is Newsweek Under Fire For Not Touching Up Palin Cover Photo. Why is this big news, I honestly have no idea. On the other hand with all the other things on Google trends at the moment that seem so much more exciting like the Kelis Sex Tape or the Leryn Franco catwalk photos, I think someone might just be screwing with us. I mean come on the Leryn Franco catwalk photos are of her in a completely see through shirt. It is the ultimate Leryn Franco nipslip peepshow if you are into her.

According to Us Weekly, the singer repeatedly heckled Palin at her show in NYC while performing “I Love New York” — in which the lyrics “get off my street” are part of the chorus — she reportedly said, “you know who can get off of my street? Sarah Palin! I’m gonna kick her ass if she don’t get off of my street!”

I suppose it should go without saying that if Sarah Palin has been reduced to speaking to hard-right audiences, but can’t do any nonpartisan interviews because they’re confident she’ll blow it, and can’t appear without John McCain because he may have to bail her out if things get dicey, and generally can’t do anything but stay in her little anti-media box, coming out twice a day like the little bird in a cuckoo clock to yell a few phrases into a crowd and leave again, she’s all but useless to her own campaign. Her favorable ratings have been diving. She’s still got Troopergate in the works. There’s still gawd knows how much embarrassing tape from her Katie Couric interview, which is probably going to keep being dribbled out from now until the election. So far, she’s been making her most indelible American impressions on the pages of the National Enquirer.

DAVID BROOKS SEES SARAH PALIN AS A ‘CANCER’…. The New York Times’ David Brooks appeared at an event this afternoon, alongside The Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg, and had a few provocative things to say about the presidential race. Specifically, the columnist described Sarah Palin as a “fatal cancer to the Republican Party,” and compared Palin’s anti-intellectualism to the president’s.

“[Palin] represents a fatal cancer to the republican party. When I first started in journalism, I worked at the National Review for Bill Buckley. And Buckley famously said he’d rather be ruled by the first 2,000 names in the Boston phone book than by the Harvard faculty. But he didn’t think those were the only two options. He thought it was important to have people on the conservative side who celebrated ideas, who celebrated learning. And his whole life was based on that, and that was also true for a lot of the other conservatives in the Reagan era. Reagan had an immense faith in the power of ideas. But there has been a counter, more populist tradition, which is not only to scorn liberal ideas but to scorn ideas entirely. And I’m afraid that Sarah Palin has those prejudices. I think President Bush has those prejudices.”

Brooks added that Palin is “absolutely not” ready for national office.

Madonna kicked off the US leg of her “Sticky and Sweet” tour at the Meadownlands Saturday night and in between sets, she really stuck it to VP hopeful Sarah Palin. First, Madonna banned her from her shows. “Sarah Palin can’t come to my party. Sarah Palin can’t come to my show. It’s nothing personal,” said the singer. To add insult to injury, Madonna then made fun of her. Maybe. Look, Page Six is printing it as an insult so I’m going to go with it. According to them, Madonna quipped,

Sarah Palin is campaigning in areas in which right-wing Republicans are already smitten with right-wing Republicans. She is going out and speaking to the basest part of the base, the part that believes Obama’s a terrorist and wants him tried for treason. The McCain campaign continues to show no faith in her intelligence. Her speeches rarely vary at all, no matter the city or the venue; if an audience is old, she talks about health care and Social Security. But now he’s 180ed again after realizing that the “radical alternative” she presented herself as was just a filthy malignant tumor — he called her “cancer,” ha ha ha, WHAT?
