Obama's First Responsibility

The one thing everyone who voted for Obama wanted was change and frankly I see a battle for it if we get it at all. Some members of the Democratic party who rode the Obama train to the station, but now seem to think they can switch tracks and go back to politics as usual. He can not allow these members to get away with this and it doesn’t appear he will. He is already threatening his first veto and hasn’t been sworn in yet, that takes balls.
I would like to say I am surprised at the likes of Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson who basically said “his people weren’t excited about giving the first half of the $700B, so he isn’t going to jump in front of a train and easily hand out the rest of it.” It is spineless twits like Ben Nelson who have kept the Democrats from reaching out and doing anything positive for too long. I would rather throw the senate into chaos and form a ruling coalition with others than keep a majority full of candy ass pansies more worried about the next election rather than doing the job they were sent their to do. One thing my daddy taught me is men are sometimes required to make tough choices and act on them, because it is the right thing to do. It is time for senators to start acting like men, even the ones who lack the appropriate parts.
President Obama will need that money and lot more to follow it if we are to put this country right. We are broken and now is not the time to be politicking. The American people demanded change. Obama’s first responsibility is to provide us with a chance to change things for ourselves. I propose in light of skyrocketing mortgage rates, plummeting property values, and a job market that looks worse every day, that he put money in the hands of every adult. I am not talking about a few hundred bucks that might buy us a new digital television, and especially not a few thousand in new tax deductions that will only help people still doing alright. I propose a payment of $50,000 to every citizen who files a tax return this year, and an additional $10,000 for every dependent we claim on our taxes. This is money that most people will dump right back into the economy. Sure some of the rich and some of the people doing okay will probably save it, but most of us will spend it and spend it quickly.
Poor families and those at risk of losing their homes will quickly buy houses or pay down mortgages. Those living in public housing and or receiving welfare will have no choice but to spend it or have their benefits cut. The system doesn’t allow people to save money, (which is why it is so hard for most people to get out of poverty). Many of the poor that buy houses and cars will still have their benefits reduced over the long term, but will be in positions where they simply don’t need them any more. With a stable home and good transportation jobs and job training become accessible to people who otherwise couldn’t get or keep them. To further validate this move not only will put an immediate influx of cash into local economies the long term reduction in social services needs.
President Obama your people need cash and we need it soon. Your first responsibility is to your people.
