The Best of Orson Scott Card – 3 of the Best OSC Books You Should Read
By Dusty Thornton

I’m an avid Orson Scott Card fan. I truly believe that he is one of this generation’s best science fiction writers. He has set the bar for many writers and continues to churn out true “works of art”.

In this article I’m going to give you a list of 3 of his most popular works that you should read, and tell you a little bit about each.

1. Ender’s Game

Ender’s Game is about a small genius child with an older brother and sister. The time period is set in the near future after Earth has had a war with a bug-like alien race called the buggers. Ender is chosen to be sent to a battle school where he is pushed to his very limits as a child commander. Ender’s Game includes many morale controversies and dilemmas that translate into today’s society.

2. A Planet Called Treason

A Planet Called Treasonis an older book that was recently re-released. It is about a planet of people who have strange gifts. The main character is a boy named Lanik Mueller. Lanik is part of a people who can regenerate lost body parts. But inside what seems like a perfect life, there is a mutation among these “regenerative’s” that makes them rapidly regenerate tissue, even if they haven’t lost it. Lanik is one of these radicals and the story follows him as he is outcast from his society and learns things about the planet that he never knew.

3. Hart’s Hope

This is a very low-profile book from Card’s earlier days. It is actually not science fiction, but fantasy. However, it is such a profound work of art. It is about betrayal, sacrifice, honor, and evil. The start of the story is a little slow, but after the second chapter I couldn’t put it down! It’s about 3 gods that people believe in, the Sweet Sisters, the Hart, and a god called God. Magic is powerful and very rare in those times and requires the user to give up blood to use the magic. Different blood determines powerful the magic is. I highly recommend ordering this one and reading it-I won’t give anymore spoilers on it!

For anyone that loves Orson Scott Card, make sure you read these 3 books. They are among some of his best work.
