The Power of How To

[ad]In my quest to find ways of explaining things to people who don’t understand that the internet is more than just a place to download dirty pictures I stumbled upon a great site called CommonCraft. Their first post I would like to share with you is called, “What is a Weblog?” The answers are short and easily understandable even by peoples drunk relatives. Moving on from blogs I found “What is an Online Community?” Like what is a blog the explanations are easily understood. Moving right along for the would be blogger or new online resident is RSS. “RSS Described in Plain English” is another fine example of how to quickly deal with that subject. For me I use Microsoft Outlook to manage my email and calendar functions and it is almost always open, so I let it manage my RSS feeds as well.

Moving along if you are a would be blogger now that you have read all of that they have you covered there as well. First there is video post, which is something like TV if you are still not sure about things. Social Networking in Plain English, this is a great explanation of how to start getting people to yor glog who don’t need to be told what a blog is. The next video is Social Bookmarking in Plain English, which explains how to further promote your blog. Past that we move to the ever important trackback in TrackBack Described in Plain English. One of the new videos on this site that I don’t use often but am starting to is on Twitter. it is really great video so give it a watch, even if you are,t up to this chapter in the book yet. Give this site a chance and pretty soon you will be blogging for fun and profit like a noob…
