With the increasing number of department stores closing around the United States people are turning to the internet to make purchases that they would have normally made in an offline department store. Companies are doing more business online and are also forcing consumers to get better acquainted with the online purchasing process. People are becoming very adept at knowing which websites are great to order from and those that are only trying to get your money without earning your trust by offering exceptional customer service.
I personally love to shop online. Shopping online offers the convenience of being able to take your time before purchasing. You’re able to easily compare prices between websites. You’re also able to save money on deals that a particular company is only offering online. One of the most important aspects of shopping online that I particularly love is the “NO HASSLE” of dealing with sales reps. No one is standing over you while you’re trying to decide which shoes go best with that purse, or which neck tie goes perfect with that shirt. You’re able to freely relax and take your time.
Although shopping online can be a liberating experience to say the least. It can also be a dangerous venture if you’re not familiar with the signs of a “bad company”. In this article I’m going to go over some of the things that you may want to consider or look out for when purchasing items on the internet. Certain features that you want to see on the company’s website before entering any personnel information in a web form and clicking submit.
The example I’m going to use today is based on buying DVDs and Music.
I love to order my Movies online because I can always get them cheap. Although in the beginning I had some issues finding a good company to order from who I could depend on to get me my product in a timely fashion. When I was new to ordering online, I didn’t consider certain factors that would’ve saved me time and money. Now I purchase according to a number of rules that I set for myself that I has made my shopping experience much more enjoyable and worry free.
1. If you live in the United States and are shopping online it is very important to take caution when ordering from websites that are based internationally. When ordering from international websites it is easy to become a victim of mail order fraud. There are fly by night websites that are launched specifically to defraud people who live abroad. Before purchasing online from an international retailer I suggest that you take the time to do a little research on the company you intend to order from. Look at any online reviews and shopper ratings, to get an idea about other people’s shopping experience.
2. Make sure you check to see how long the website has been online and also what country they are in… If a company is online selling and they have not been online for more than 5 years, check to see if they have a customer rating on the various marketplace search engines for comparison shopping. If the company is less than 5 years old and has no customer ratings or reviews or testimonials, you may want to re-consider ordering from them.
3. If you cannot find a telephone number anywhere on their website, where you can call and speak with a customer service rep, then you want to look for a email form where you can test them by sending a general question about a product or service, and pay attention to how long it takes to respond. If it takes longer than 24 hours, you might want to consider another website to purchase your desired item.
4. When speaking with a customer service rep for a website business, it’s important to purchase from companies that are willing to earn your trust by offering 100% customer satisfaction. Although this is very rare online, there are some companies who do honor this level of customer service. There are DVD retail websites that offer 100% Customer Satisfaction for the sole purpose of developing good review ratings. I have found that when ordering from these types of sites, they go all out to make sure you’re happy so that you will give them a good review.
5. Another very important thing to look for when purchasing online is the amount of time that it takes to receive your order from an online company. Typically your order should always leave the merchant’s facility within 48 hours. Make sure you get postal tracking numbers after submitting your order online.
These are just a few tips for having a safer shopping experience online
