Film Review – X-Men Origins – Wolverine (2009)

BOTTOM LINE: Although much better than X-Men 3 in terms of story, this instalment in the franchise is a little flat and uninspiring, not going anywhere terribly interesting despite some great visuals, a handful of nice action scenes, and of course, Hugh Jackman’s solid presence. THE GOOD: The X-Men franchise took a creative u-turn with the third installment, sacrificing story for lots of noise and action in start contrast to the first two films. “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”, despite it clumsy title, has a stronger story to tell this time around in focusing on the character of Wolverine. Notorious Movie Review

Since Biggie’s death, the David Hasselhoff of the game, Piff Diddles has remixed everything that Biggie has ever done a dozen times. Even old phone conversations will do it. I bet the next album will consist of beats backing Biggie ordering Chinese over the phone. Continue reading

Because they were made-for-TV movies, I didn’t see the first two installments, although I sure heard a lot about them from the various children in my life (and even a few parents). I have also found myself unable to escape images of the series’ stars, who seem to beam out from T-shirts, CDs, DVDs, games, and anything else I might conceivably see whenever I set foot in Wal-Mart or Target. This is saying nothing of the coverage HSM has received in the entertainment magazines I read or even the news programming I view. The damn thing has gotten so enormously popular that I started to feel out of the loop, and that in turn made me feel prematurely old. Continue reading

Military Costumes For Armed Forces Day

Armed Forces Day occurs each and every year on the third Saturday of May (Tomorrow, May 15th this year). This national day of honor was created to salute the loyalty and hard work of American troops in every branch of the military – Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and Coast Guard. Up until 1949, each branch of the armed forces had their own day of celebration. Unifying these days of tribute into one event, Armed Forces Day was proclaimed to be a national day by President Harry Truman on February 20, 1950. Continue reading

Music Within Review

Music Within is a film based on the true life story of Richard Pimentel, the man who created the Americans with Disabilities Act. Pimentel becomes deaf after a bombing in the Vietnam War. When he comes home, two influential things happen: he is told he can’t enter college; and he meets Art Honeyman, a man with cerebral palsy. Continue reading
