Film Review – X-Men Origins – Wolverine (2009)

BOTTOM LINE: Although much better than X-Men 3 in terms of story, this instalment in the franchise is a little flat and uninspiring, not going anywhere terribly interesting despite some great visuals, a handful of nice action scenes, and of course, Hugh Jackman’s solid presence. THE GOOD: The X-Men franchise took a creative u-turn with the third installment, sacrificing story for lots of noise and action in start contrast to the first two films. “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”, despite it clumsy title, has a stronger story to tell this time around in focusing on the character of Wolverine. Music Review of Modern Guilt by Beck

Modern Guilt dives in with folky opener “Orphans”. It has a distant bass sound in the beginning. Once the guitar enters and Beck voices out, the track just hits the jackpot like that. It produces a country-like atmosphere to it, folk and country rock altogether. Continue reading

Beyond the Call, Movie Review

Movies entertain us on many levels. They make us laugh, cry, scream in fear. Every once in a great while though, they give us a glimpse of greatness and leave a lasting emotional impact. Beyond the Call is one such film. The newest documentary from Academy Award nominated Adrian Belic, the film focuses on three middle-aged former male soldiers who travel around the world on humanitarian aid missions. Lucky for those who may have missed it at the Oxford Film Festival, it is playing again in Memphis this Saturday. Continue reading
