What a stupid film. And let me qualify that by saying it’s not stupid in a good way. There’s an attempt here to blend your traditional romantic comedy with the stupid goof-ball/gross-out comedy that was done very well by films such as “There’s Something About Mary”, but for most of its running time, “Good Luck Chuck” doesn’t manage to work in either category. Save the chemistry and likeable qualities of the lead actors, and the odd endearing moment or good joke here and there, this film is a complete waste of a great premise.

Charlie ‘Chuck’ Logan (Dane Cook) has a problem; after a goth-girl puts a hex on him when he was a kid after he rejected her, he suddenly finds himself leading a life where if any woman sleeps with him, the next guy the woman meets she’ll marry. In uncanny fashion, girlfriend after girlfriend marries the next guy after Chuck and at first he’s a little disturbed by this but after some coaxing from his sleaze-ball friend who can never get laid, he decides to do his job for the female species and sleep with as many as possible in order to help them find their true love and marital partner. Everything’s going well until Cam Wexler (Jessica Alba) enters his life. A clumsy penguin handler, Chuck finally sees a woman he wants to marry but he doesn’t want to hex it by sleeping with her and have her run off with the next guy she meets.

And so ends what it is great about this film; this premise is absolutely brilliant for the romantic comedy genre and could have potentially opened up all manner of comedic and dramatic possibilities. However, the filmmakers seem to make every effort to sabotage whatever avenue an audience can take in getting in to the story and the characters. It starts to go south when Cam’s clumsiness becomes really annoying; seeing her hit her head on poles, crash tables, throw hot wax on to Chuck, locking her keys in the car, having her dress torn off when she gets it caught in Chuck’s car door… it just never stops. The real disaster here is that when Chuck and Cam start spending time together, a real chemistry is brewing between the two characters; but when all the odd-ball crap starts you just say to yourself, “okay… now that’s stupid, enough already!” I just found myself being thrown out of the film and starting to dislike the characters (to tell you the truth, even the actors don’t look entirely comfortable like even they are thrown out of the moment).

Chuck’s sleazy offsider, Stu Kaminsky (Dan Fogler), is really not fun to watch, unless you like that sort of thing. Seeing him get it off inside a grapefruit is gross-out funny but somehow it just doesn’t work in this film. All of the ridiculous sex scenes are reasonably funny, but seeing Chuck lose the plot in the second half of the film when he’s trying to do everything he can to keep Cam is just plain embarrassing to watch, and again, throws you out of the film and makes you dislike Chuck’s character; in fact he almost seems like a different character altogether to the charming, intelligent dentist we were introduced to. But that’s okay, we’re told that there’s a certain madness in love throughout the film. Maybe, but this isn’t real life, it’s a film, and by extension, anything that doesn’t work to keep you interested in the film should be tossed out.

I think the biggest problem with this film is that can’t decide what it wants to be; either a romantic comedy or a gross-out, over-the-top comedy. If it had been either one of those it would probably worked for its genre, but for some reason, the mix of the two just doesn’t work well and as a result you get a film that tries to hit two genres at the same time but doesn’t deliver on their selling points.

“Good Luck Chuck” is unfortunately a waste of time; it’s occasionally funny, has a spectacular premise, but is let down by stupid, idiotic scenes and inconsistent characters that destroy much of what could have been good about watching a film like this.

Rayne (Kristanna Loken) the Damphir, half human half vampire escapes from her captors at the carnival, mimicking the style of BloodRayne in the video game. Set somewhere in the late Middle Ages, the movie showcase quite a popular cast other than Kristanna Loken like Matthew Davis, Micheal Madsen, Billy Zane & Michelle Rodriguez.

Note that the cross she wears around her neck is different than that in the video game. In fact, her unique cross resembles the sword of the brimstone vampire hunters. Jessica Alba would have made a sexier BloodRayne. Kristanna Loken physique is not quite as slender as BloodRayne in the video game.

Rayne decides to hunt down Kagan (Ben Kingsley), the vampire that raped her mother & created her. Firstly she has to find the “eye” which she does & absorbs it powers. Many scenes are in darkness in the movie which is not particularly complimentary of Kristanna Loken’s figure in my opinion.

Nonetheless, there is a decently lighted & spicy sex scene between Rayne & Sebastian (Matthew Davis) in the movie. You may want to close your children’s eyes during the scene. Additionally, there is some gore included yet hardly close to the level of gore in the video game. Thank goodness.

There are some interesting camera shots to suggest fast movement of a vampire in the BloodRayne movie. The age of Dark Ages theme to the movie bodes well with the suffering that is expressed by the constant battles & verbal confessions like that of Rayne (Kristanna Loken) & Sebastian. Rayne trains with the brimstone society; people dedicated to slaying vampires. Additionally her sword is not as attractive & fierce looking as in the video game up to until she receives a new pair from the Brimstone society.

Somehow, the actors talk in a funny way, especially the character of Michelle Rodriguez, Micheal Madsen & occasionally from Kristanna Loken too. It is possibly because of their natural slangs & having to adjust their speech to talk in a more British accent for the BloodRayne movie.

Moving on; Rayne after having to slay Katarin (Michelle Rodriguez) then manages to acquire the “heart” & battle to the death with Kagan. Successful as expected, she is virtually alone now after her lover Sebastian & compatriot Vladimir (Micheal Madsen) is dead. Nonetheless, she is satisfied because her vengeance is fulfilled, sits on a throne & perhaps pondering her future too.

“You’d like it. Puppies get killed.”
- The LOST character Sawyer [Josh Holloway] summarizes “Of Mice and Men” for Henry Gale [Michael Emerson] (a killer-of-bunnies.)

“After 45 years of this crap I’ve just started to enjoy it.”
- Pete Townshend, the WHO summarizes a career.

“Football’s a difficult business; and aren’t they prima donnas?”
- Queen Elizabeth II

And that’s the FunnyPoetry.com funny quote summary for 2006 – the year that Britain finally paid back the last of the money it borrowed from the U.S. and Canada during WW II, according to CNN. And why did that take so long? The interest rate was 2%, that’s why. (By the way, Britain’s WW I debts were never fully repaid.) On to 2007, which looks ripe to produce many more fine quotes: if for no other reason than that 25% of Americans expect the return of Jesus in the coming year according to an Associated Press-AOL News poll.

Fantastic Four is an exciting movie. With great special effects and loyalty to the comic book, this is an awesome film for all of the old Fantastic Four fans as well as today’s new generation of fans.

The movie is centered around the effects caused by an experiment aboard an orbiting satellite owned by Victor Doom (Julian McMahon). The four scientists Dr. Reed Richards (Ioan Gruffudd), Ben Grimm (Michael Chiklis), Susan Storm (Jessica Alba) and Johnny Storm (Chris Evans) become exposed to an intense radiation storm while aboard the space station and develop superhuman powers. Reed Richards gets the ability to stretch his body. Sue Storm can becomes invisible and generate force fields. Johnny Storm is able to withstand and control fire. Ben Grimm later turns into a “thing” of solid rock and becomes incredibly strong!

Together, this “Fantastic Four”, so named by a crowd of people that see what they can do, while trying to reverse their powers eventually detect and realize that they must stop the evil plans of Victor Doom, a billionaire businessman. He later becomes Dr. Doom as his body also changes from the radiation he was exposed to aboard his own space station. His body slowly turns into a super strong metal alloy that gives him the ability to absorb and control electricity.

In the beginning the movie, Dr. Richards approaches Victor Doom with a business proposition involving research on genetics and finding a cure for a wide variety of diseases. They agree to use Doom’s orbiting space station to observe a unique space storm that contains the building blocks of life. Everything seems routine until the storm picks up speed and hits the station far ahead of schedule.

Caught completely by surprise, everyone on the space station is affected, though none of them are aware of it…until the genetic changes begin to happen.

That is when everything starts getting complicated. Sue Storm and Dr. Reed Richards become united in finding a cure for their “special powers”, but in the process have to get past their personal conflict with each other. Once in love, they had a painful end to their relationship. Suddenly reunited by fate, they now try to be professional with each other in order to figure out a way to change themselves back the way they used to be.

Ben Grimm, who suffers the most when his total appearance is altered into a walking huge hulk of living rocks. Even though he has a heart of gold, his girlfriend rejects him immediately, frightened by reason of his new body. Ben Grimm even endures more humiliation when the press spreads the name “The Thing” given to him by Johnny Storm in a press interview. It turns out he cannot even use an elevator because his weight exceeds the limit of what elevators can handle, over two thousand pounds.

The movie grows more intense as Doom grows in his abilities and ambitions for power. Like his personality, he remains cold to human suffering, caring only for what he can use and control. Soon, the Fantastic Four challenged by Doom and forced into trying to stop him from killing and destroying millions of innocent people.

“Fantastic Four” is rated PG-13 for sequences of intense action and suggestive content.

Superbrands Burberry, Bulgari, Dior and Gucci are watching the demise of their high street counterparts with interest.

Despite spinning in a different orbit to stores such as USC and The Officers Club, the superbrands, such as Dolce & Gabbana, Dior, Gucci, Bulgari, Louis Vuitton and Chanel – synonymous with glamourpusses such as Britney Spears, Jessica Alba, Angelina Jolie, Christina Aguilera, and Beyonce – are keen to ensure damage limitation for their brands during the economic downturn.

The credit crunch moth

When French women’s clothing store chain Morgan went into administration at the end of 2008, it was just another example of the credit crunch moth eating into a well-known clothing brand (albeit French) with stores now set to close across the UK.

The proliferation of high street clothing stores biting the dust is just desserts, some argue, for some chains whose hefty profit margins were exposed by more competitively priced so-called ‘disposable fashion’ stores such as Primark and Matalan, resulting in a dramatic switch in UK shopping habits (over the past eight years, these brass end retailers have doubled their share of the market).

No High Street miracle, despite the influence of Zac Efron and Miley Cyrus

With the demise of household names like USC and Mark One, Britain’s clothing retail sector, it seems, has never had it so bad. Despite many stores tapping into the High School Musical and Hannah Montana market with its American youth-inspired lines, it’s not been enough to stop the downfall of many of the mid-priced stores. What is a celebrity shopper like Jade Goody or Lindsay Lohan to do?

The uncertain future for superbrands like Gucci, Dior, Bulgari and Dolce & Gabbana

Traditionally, companies at the luxury end of the market are hit hardest by a global economic downturn (Whittards, anyone?), so, surely, it’s only a matter of time before these big names go under.

After all, the company at the heart of it all, Lehman Brothers, pointed out that up to 60 percent of the luxury goods industry’s customers remain in classic, developed markets, which are notoriously pummeled in a recession.

A worrying time of uncertainty for any American Idol looking to wow the red carpets in that knockout Versace dress. Is it finally downsize time on the celebrity circuit?

Are we, the common men and women of Britain, to be confronted (and affronted) by the sight of Britney in a heavily discounted sequined top (pack of three) from Asda or have our eyes assaulted by the image of David Beckham stepping from his shiny Bentley in a hand-stitched white leather jacket (ethically sourced) for under 50 from TK Maxx (or, as my sister-in-law calls it for added chic mystique, Tee-kay-mah).

Editors and buyers, after all, are saying we are now entering the age of minimalism and austerity.

Mamma Mia or Mamma See Ya?

Gucci president Danielle Vitale says the credit crisis will affect the G brand in the short term but she’s not too concerned thanks to healthy international sales and the fact that Gucci is a truly global brand with a wide customer base and that it has seen off recessions before

Burberry has been particularly affected by the slowdown in the US economy, saying its US outlets are expected to place smaller orders this year. Hopefully Burberry CEO’s decision to diversify the label, giving their signature plaid a backseat, will prove to be a wise decision in 2009

Yves Carcelle, Chairman and CEO of Louis Vuitton, has dismissed the economic downturn as having ‘no impact’ on his company. Explaining his bold claim, he states that when things are uncertain, Louis Vuitton thrives because it is ‘of eternal value’

The move towards a less ostentatious 2009 in the fashion world seems to have been reflected in Bulgari CEO Francesco Trapani’s decision to sell his classic 137-foot yacht, which was known as the Bulgari yacht with Trapani sometimes conducting interviews on it

Dior CEO Sidney Toledano isn’t worried about his superbrand or it’s survival during the recession, telling the Associated Press, “When times are tough, the mistake is to throw in the towel. I use this metaphor – when the kids are not hungry, you have to cook even nicer dishes to stoke their appetite.”

Ironically, it may be lower-end retailers, such as H&M and Kmart, who provide the lifeline for superbrands during the lean months of 2009, maintaining the link between chic and high street. They’re now providing the best of both worlds to consumers.

These brass end retailers have enjoyed great success with designer collections, such as Stella McCartney for Puma, Issac Mizrahi for Target, and Karl Lagerfeld for H&M.

And so the love affair between brass end high street retailer and superbrand seems to be allowing both to endure for now. In the words of another famous love affair, Romeo and Juliet, “What’s in a name?”

It appears, for now at least, the superbrands still smell as sweet…but alas, poor isolated Morgan is the latest to fall upon its sword.

Only time will tell if the Guccis and Diors of this world will suffer a similar fate.

[ad]The list of Lovely Latinas from MSN this morning makes me cringe. Many of the stars pictured are very lovely, but I think the list went out of their way to pick horrid photos. I have seen prettier pictures of corpses a few days old than some these. The lighting was horrid, the expressions mostly distasteful and frankly the photographer either was blind or purposely made the shot awful.

Here are a few of the highlights

J. Lo who I don’t find attractive on even the best of days looks like she is wearing a christmas tree skirt with a body that is too big for her neck and head.

Jessica Alba, quite possible the hottest of the list, looks like she is on the toilet taking a crap. Unfortunately she still has all her clothes one so don’t get your hopes up for a skin show

Eva Mendez looks like she is trying to keep a booger from from falling out of her nose.

Catalina Sandino Moreno has an adorable smile, but it still looks like she has been caught farting.

Eva langoria is clenching her teeth so no one can tell she is clenching her but cheeks while she looks for a bathroom sign.

Semla Hayak doesn’t have a horrible photo, but I am posting the highlight because someone just needs to point out how impressive her chest is naturally.

Jasleen Gonzales is the top model from where, Concentration Camp Emaciatia?

Gloria Estafan is still looking good and for a woman as old as she is with as many problems as she has had physically that is saying something. If most women could look that good at half her age the world would be a much prettier place.

Rita Morena looks good for 76, not as good as Gloria will look at that age for sure, but this photo might not be Rita. Frankly it looks like a pretty good pic of a aging drag queen still trying to be fabulous.

http://movies.msn.com/movies/galleryfeature/lovelylatinas?GT1=28116&photoidx=1

Last night US Congressman Dennis Kucinich from Ohio read out 35 articles of impeachment against President George W Bush. For more than three hours he detailed everything from Election Fraud to War Crimes. This morning I checked the headlines of most news organization websites and my local Dayotn, Ohio newspapers looking for some response to this act. What did I find? Not a Damned Thing! Was a call for impeachment less news worthy than Jessica Alba’s new baby or Ken Griffey Jr hitting number 600? I like the thought of anything that comes from between Jessica Alba’s legs. However, I certainly think any agency that calls itself a purveyor of news should give a call for impeachment equal headlines.

What would your Tuesday with Brad be without a little perspective from Google?

As we get closer to wrapping up American Idol for the season and probably forever, William Hung has hit the Top 100 searches again. So where is William Hung? At the moment the ex-Idol hopeful is working on a Math degree and UC Northridge with hopes of becoming a math teacher.

With no big surprise mystery illnesses on House last night nothing jumps out of the Google Trends page from there. I am going through the entries never the less and find is Courtney Henggeler is currently rated in the “Volcanic” for hotness on Google. Of course after “Bog Creatures” it is surprising no one tossed this hottie in a volcano.

We all knew Roger Clemens was a rock star of baseball. No one realized just how much like a rock star the seven time Cy Young winner really was though. First it is found out that he had an affair with Mindy McCready which started when she was fifteen. Now we find out he had another mistress named Angela Moyer. This is on top of his already hot wife, Debbie Clemens. Drug use, hot wife, and extra girls on the side screams rock star to me. However unlike rockstars I don’t think being dead would have been a good career move for him as a baseball player.

In one moment of farewell we say goodbye to Mildred Loving. As the black woman who challenged Virginia’s ban on inter-racial marriage and won, pop culture has much to say thank you to her for. It wasn’t just blacks who couldn’t marry whites it was every race in many places. So take a moment to think about Mildred as you think about some of the great interracial pop icons. From Kidada Jones and Halle Berry to Tiger Woods and Jessica Alba to Norah Jones and Mariah Carey our culture has gained much from a woman who didn’t want to be a hero, just a bride.
