First off, it kicked ASS. Seriously.

Okay, now for the more in depth analysis. I went into this movie with some knowledge of the comic book history thanks to online friends. But I think even if you know nothing about the comics you can still enjoy this movie. It updates the story of Tony Stark and his journey to becoming Iron Man very well. Of course it’s even better if you know something about the comics and I’m sure all the Marvel fans went crazy for how utterly awesome this is.

It’s funny, especially the sequences where Tony is testing out the Iron Suit. You gotta feel for Robert Downey Jr. or whatever stuntman was doing those because they believably looked like they hurt. I must admit here to being a HUGE RDJ fangirl and he doesn’t disappoint as Tony Stark. He plays both the carefree millionaire genius playboy and the deeper more thoughtful genius revenge seeking man very well.

The action is edge of your seat gripping. It flows easily with all the other scenes. It is pulse pounding, knuckle biting action that surprisingly doesn’t rely heavily on CGI. And it works. I was literally biting my nails at some points. And kudos to all the stuntmen and effects people.

Plus, Gwyneth Paltrow was excellent as Pepper Potts. Yes, she was a little bit of the screaming heroine but she really held her own. Also, love love love that the film did not go there in terms of the heroine/female lead falling for the hero/male lead. It was very refreshing and hopefully will stay that way in the sequel (or sequels).

Sequel? Trust me, after the opening weekend this movie had there is no doubt that there will be a sequel. And if you still aren’t sure, stay through the end credits for an extra tidbit that leaves the door wide open for a follow up.
