Top Three Visit Home

Tonight we have the top three performing. Adam Lambert, Danny Gokey and Kris Allen all got a chance to go home and visit their family and fans. Tonight they perform for America’s votes. Will Danny finally go home? Or will the producer’s maipulating pay off? Will Kris get thrown under the producer’s bus of inevitability (copyright my sister Emily). Let’s find out!
Ryan tells us that tonight is Idol’s 300th episode. Go Idol!News through the grapevine is that Kara doesn’t get a choice because she may be involved with the winner’s song. (That would be the “Time of My Life” for this year.)
First we get Danny Gokey. He gets to do “Dance Little Sister” by Terrance Trent D’Arby which was chosen by Paula. She says she chose it because Danny has the same magical quality in his voice. He shouts from the beginning. I think I just heard him miss some words. He’s trying to damn hard. Please, for all that is good in the world, America, put the GO in Gokey! Randy says he performed the hell out of it and says that it was good. Kara doesn’t like Danny’s dancing, which I thankfully didn’t see. She doesn’t think she’ll remember the performance tomorrow. Paula talks about the magical part of his voice. Simon didn’t like the dancing either. Vocally it was good for Simon. Are they really hearing the same thing we are. Simon didn’t like the song choice.
And it seems my sources are wrong. Ryan says after the commercial break Kris gets a song from Kara and Randy.
Former Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe is in the audience!
Kris gets to sing Appologize by One Republic. Randy said they chose it because Kris needs a moment. Kara says its dark and very open to interpretation which is Kris’ speciality. Kris is at the piano. I think it might have been better if it had been stripped down with just Kris and the piano, no band behind him, but that’s just me. I like what he’s doing, but what will the judges think? Randy says he thinks this shows what Kris can be in the music industry. Kara calls it competent, but wishes he’d made it more his own. Paula is used to him taking artistic chances. She points out a bum note that I didn’t hear, but she’s proud of him. Simon calls Kara out saying she can’t choose a song and then complain he didn’t arrange it differently. Simon suggest that Randy and Kara should have rearranged the song. He doesn’t give any criticism of the song at all, unless I missed it.
Simon choses One by U2 for Adam. He says he got a call from Bono giving permision for him to sing it. We get the dreamy blue light for Adam. For a moment I thought he might have glitter on his face, I was wrong. And there’s the traditional Adam scream which is miles and miles above the horror visited upon us by Danny last week. It was good, but not all that special for me. I hope the studio version is better. Randy says he’s still in the zone, a little off the melody and Simon boos him. Kara calls him an amazing strategist. She says the performance was unbelievable and then disses Simon. Paula calls it brilliant, superb and calls him the American Idol. Simon calls it a brilliant song choice, ha! Brilliant all around from Mr. Cowell. Says if Adam isn’t in the finals it will be the biggest upset ever.
Time filler with an update about how the Idol Gives Back money is being spent in Africa to help prevent malaria.
Danny is up again, spending time with Ryan on the stools of doom. He goes with the mega-cliche, You Are so Beautiful by Joe Cocker. Way to remind us that you are a widower. Like we haven’t been reminded a gazillion times. He’s soft and slow. Damn, is he going to have that precious “moment” that the judges keep talking about? He’s still a douche. Nope, there’s the shouting I’ve come to expect from him. He should have kept it soft and simple and h might have impressed me. Randy thinks says that Danny can really, really, really sing. Really? Kara calls it stunning. Paula says he left everyone breathless. Yeah cause I was trying to hold back the vomit. Simon says it didn’t need rearranging. He calls it a vocal masterclass. WTF???? Noone has ever told Danny he’s bad and that sucks. I hope that he either goes or he gets his ass handed to him next week.
Kris is next. He’s singing Heartless by Kanye West. Wow. Totally different choice from Kris. Onstage with just his guitar. Now this is a performance, just from the opening notes. This is a moment for Kris. I will totally buy Kris’ album. I love this and I don’t even know the song. Why has Kris NOT BEEN PIMPED????? Love, love, love. Randy thinks this is going to be a tough voting night. He likes it better than the original. Kara wanted him to that before, calling it bold, brave and fearless. Paula says this is what keeps him relevant. Simon says he had written Kris out earlier but with that performance his opinion has changed.
Adam is doing Aerosmith’s Crying. He’s singing it in his usual style. But he’s strutting around the stage like he owns it. And he does. It was an okay performance, but it will be good enough to get him in the finals. Randy says he’s one of the best they’ve ever had on the stage. Kara wants to know how he hits those notes and still talks the next day. Paula thinks he’s set the bar very high. Simon thinks everyone should vote for Adam because he deserves to be there and not to assume anything.
