Going into day eleven of the Obama Administration we are hearing all sorts of promises about technology and tech problems they inherited from the the Bush Administration. Granted the tech problems aren’t the only problems they inherited, they are however a big one. The White House itself was reported to be running mostly on windows machines that were six to eight years old. While granted Windows 2000 wasn’t a bad OS as far as things go, machines that age are not the dedicated servers we need to be using in a place like that. Out of date and under powered they no doubt were. What scared me most was the unconfirmed rumor of a number of machines from the mid nineties still running Windows 95 and Windows 98.
I am not a big fan of the Mac platform the White House will no doubt be switching to suit president Barack Obama’s personal preference, even if we were in boon times. We are in a financial crisis so in my opinion it makes no sense to pay between two and four times as much as necessary to go Mac. I suppose we will see if this happens when Apple tries to tell us the White House didn’t have computers before they had Mac’s.
